How to Remove Subdomains on DirectAdmin

Removing a subdomain in DirectAdmin is straightforward. You can choose to remove only the subdomain or also delete the associated directory and its contents. Follow the steps below to remove a subdomain.

Steps to Remove a Subdomain

Step 1: Access the Subdomains Section

  1. Log in to your DirectAdmin control panel.
  2. From the Main Control Panel menu, click on the Subdomains icon to access the subdomains section.

Step 2: Select the Subdomain to Remove

  1. In the list of subdomains, locate the subdomain you want to delete.
  2. Check the box next to the subdomain(s) you wish to remove.

Step 3: Delete the Subdomain

  1. Click the Delete Selected button.
  2. A prompt will appear asking you to confirm the deletion.

Step 4: Choose Whether to Delete the Subdomain’s Files

  • Remove Directory Contents: If you want to delete the subdomain’s directory and all the files within it, check the box labeled Remove Directory Contents.
  • If you leave this box unchecked, the subdomain will be removed, but the directory and files will remain intact, though they will no longer be accessible through the subdomain.

Step 5: Confirm Deletion

  1. Once you’ve selected your preferences (whether to remove directory contents or not), confirm the deletion by clicking Delete.
  2. The subdomain will be removed, and its files will either be retained or deleted based on your selection.

Important Notes

  • Be careful when selecting Remove Directory Contents, as this action permanently deletes the subdomain’s files.
  • If you don't want to delete the files but just stop the subdomain from working, ensure the Remove Directory Contents box is unchecked.
  • Removing a subdomain may take a few minutes to propagate across the server.
