Server Hostname

The server hostname is a management tool that allows you to connect to a server within your Enhance cluster by using a human-readable domain name instead of an IP address. It is especially useful for email connections (e.g., for incoming and outgoing mail) when DNS has not yet been pointed to the correct server.

Key Points:

  • Server hostname format: It is recommended to use the format {server_name}.{brand_domain} but you can choose any unique domain name.
  • Uniqueness: Each server must have a unique hostname, and it cannot be used as a website on the platform.
  • SHN website: When a server hostname is set, a corresponding SHN website will be created automatically in your cluster and will appear in the Websites listing.

To Set a Server Hostname on an Existing Server:

  1. Go to Servers in the left sidebar.
  2. Locate the server and select Manage from the dropdown menu.
  3. In the top right corner of the server management page, click Server hostname.
  4. Enter your chosen hostname in the Domain field and click Add.

DNS Considerations:

  • If you're using Enhance for DNS, the necessary records will be automatically added to the zone.
  • If you're using an external DNS provider, you'll need to manually add the required records with the provider.
